A saga in four chapters

The Runic Cup.

Our name and our mark are not decoration. They are an old idea about reading the future, kept in a rune and a golden cup. Turn the page.

IThe Rune
Fé · Fehu · ᚠ

The rune of wealth.

Fehu is the first rune of the Elder Futhark. Its name means cattle, and where cattle were the wealth you could move, it became the rune of money itself.

What it meant

Cattle. Portable, countable wealth: the first thing people priced, traded and staked.

What it became

Money. The root of the words fee and fief: value you can move and exchange.

What it means now

A market. Wealth in motion, changing hands as belief changes.

Cattle were the first fortune, and the first thing ever put to a price. After the Rune Poem · Fehu
IIThe Golden Cups
Sökkvabekkr

Where Sága and Odin drink.

Sága and Odin drinking from golden cups at Sökkvabekkr
Sága & Odin at SökkvabekkrLorenz Frølich, 1895

The Poetic Edda names a hall called Sökkvabekkr, where cool waves flow. There, the verse says, Odin and Sága drink together every day, glad, from cups of gold.

Odin gave an eye to know what comes; Sága remembers all that ever happened. Each day the two raise golden cups and weigh what happens next.

Two who see, meeting daily over gold, to speculate on what the world will do.After Grímnismál · the Poetic Edda
IIIThe Name
Sága

She who sees, and tells.

Sága’s name is bound to sight and to telling: the same root that gives us the sagas themselves, the honest record of what was done and how it turned out. She is memory made trustworthy.

That is the second half of a market. A price looks forward, but the moment it settles it becomes the record: what the crowd believed, and what actually came to pass. A saga written in real time.

Look forward to price it. Keep the record to prove it.Sága · the seeress
IVThe Mark
The Runic Cup

One symbol for what happens next.

So the mark is a cup drawn from runes: Fehu’s wealth set in motion, Sága’s golden cup raised to the future. One vessel that gathers a thousand views into a single honest number.
